According
to the US Department of Commerce's
Office of Travel & Tourism Industries,
the United States welcomed 49.4
million international visitors in
the year 2005. Yet America needs
promoting as a destination to achieve
improved success/ROI and optimal
balancing between the nation's security
needs and its interest in foreign
tourism. Diversity of languages
and cultural relevance/competence
are fundamental to succeed in the
large campaigns and US travel programs
intended to market the United States
as an attractive international tourist
destination. It goes without saying,
attracting, catering to and moving
people (and goods) requires flawless
communication, beyond any language
and cultural barriers. To succeed,
these industries need diverse workforces,
where multilingual and multicultural
professionals are strategically
positioned within major players
of these industries and their extensions
to bridge the gaps wherever needed.
